The student-artists each told stories of self-discovery and of their place in school, their new found awareness of the natural environment, and significant awakenings and realizations about their and the other's culture. The different locational contexts, and the multiple perspectives on similar school and cultural experiences merge to reveal the powerful and pervasive influence of formal schooling.

Self-discovery, building relationships and a sense of community emerge in this qualitative, arts-informed research. Through poetic transcriptions, student narratives and poetry I explore processes and unearth the transformative possibilities of holistic, non-formal learning experiences. The transformational possibilities and realizations that emerged from this singular experience may, indeed, prove to be lasting.
