The purpose of this study was to evaluate the responses of the students enrolled in an Advanced Placement Art History class in relation to Pre-Columbian objects in two diverse museum settings. From the review of the literature, a case study was developed to determine whether environments in which these objects are displayed would affect viewer responses. The exhibits under comparison for this study are housed in a culturally based anthropological museum and an art museum.Subjects--Topical Terms:

After the study was conducted, student responses were analyzed and a correlation with established models of exposing students to art was extrapolated. The study concluded with recommendations for teachers to visit museum sites in order to plan for instruction. A proposed model is included that could be utilized by art history teachers suggesting how to plan visits, to augment instruction, and prepare for the annual Advanced Placement Art History Exam.
