Regional Economic Models have tried to incorporate ecological values in order to establish a relationship between the environment and the economy. A Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) defines the linkages between production, income distribution, consumption of goods/services, savings and investment, and trade. An Environmental Social Accounting Matrix (ESAM) is an attempt to incorporate environmental effects into a SAM. This thesis presents an ESAM that links the environment to the structure of a regional economy.

520 $a The proposed ESAM includes a concept of sustainability to define the relationship between nature and economy. Nature is considered as a provider of goods and the assimilative capacity of nature is considered as a service. The ESAM allows defining Fixed-Price Multipliers and other indicators of the regional domestic product that consider the sustainability of the region and the value of their natural resources. These indicators are estimated from the ESAM and compared with those from the SAM.
