polymer was found to electrocatalytically reduce oxygen, lowering the potential required for the four electron reduction by 300 mV. Carbon dioxide was also catalytically reduced at 1 V less than that observed without the catalyst. The (Co(v-quinpy))

polymer was similarly active for the catalytic reduction of oxygen, but no catalytic reduction of carbon dioxide was observed.

Polymer modified microelectrodes were used for analytical determinations of iron and calcium. The copolymer of vinyl-ferrocene and v-bpy (v-bpy is 4-vinyl-4

bipyridine) preconcentrated Fe(II) from solution by formation of a complex with the v-bpy in the copolymer. Polybenzylviologen, via ion exchange, incorporated antipyrylazo III which then preconcentrates calcium by formation a complex. In both cases the electrochemical signal from the Fe(II) or the antipyrylazo III-calcium complex was used to generate a calibration curve. These electrodes exhibit submicromolar sensitivity and a dynamic range that extends over three orders of magnitude.

Conductances were measured in mixed valent electropolymerized films of transition metal complexes of the type poly- (M(v-bpy)
$\
sb{\rm n}
$(
L)
$\
sb{\rm m}
$)
(where M = Os, Ru, Fe, Co; L = cyano, phenanthroline derivatives). The conductance trends correlated with the atomic radius of the metal center, backbonding ability of the ligands, and distance between localized states. The mechanism of charge transport was investigated by examining the influence of temperature, solvent and electrolyte on the conductances. Solvent effects paralleled outer sphere electron transfer in solution as described by Marcus Theory.
