Thesis (M.F.A.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2003.
Although Gombrowicz's play Princess Ivona predates the Theatre of the Absurd by almost twenty years, the work shows itself to be an important precursor to the movement. The California Repertory Company's production strove to reveal the Absurd qualities of the piece and in doing so required a lighting aesthetic rooted in the tenets of the Theatre of the Absurd and its expression in color theory. The lighting design utilized an evocative saturated color palette based on the psychological and symbolic theories of color formulated by Wassily Kandinsky and Max Keller to awaken the underlying essence of absurdism in the text.Subjects--Topical Terms:
