This thesis project report explores the process of developing and implementing the costume design for <italic>willie, mickey and the duke</italic>, an original doo-wop musical by Howard Burman (book and lyrics) and Matt Vinson (music). The production was held at the Edison Theatre and ran from November 1<super> st</super> through November 23<super>rd</super>, 2002. A recurring theme in the production, both from a design and directorial perspective, was the power of the myth of the perfect idol. During the 1950s projecting an image of perfection was vital to a feeling of security against an unstable political climate. Society finds perfection in its heroes. The focus of the costume design was to further this belief in the myth of perfect heroes.Subjects--Topical Terms:
