The findings indicate that with regard to academic preparation as measured by the SAT, Hispanic, African American, and Anglo students who were first-year freshmen in 2000 all realized higher scores on the SAT than did Hispanic, African American, and Anglo students who were first-year freshmen in 1995. The difference in the SAT of Anglo students who were first-year freshmen in 2000 was statistically significant, although not educationally significant. The high school grade point average, another measure of academic preparation of Hispanic and African American students who were first-year freshmen in 2000 was statistically significantly higher than the high school grade point average of Hispanic and African American students who were first-year freshmen in 1995 although the difference was not educationally significant. The high school grade point average of Anglo students who were first-year freshmen in 2000 was higher than the high school grade point average of Anglo students who were first-year freshmen in 1995. However, the difference was minimal and therefore was not large enough to be either statistically or educationally significant. The first-year cumulative grade point average of Hispanic, African American, and Anglo students who were first-year freshmen in 2000 was higher than the first-year cumulative grade point average of Hispanic, African American, and Anglo students who were first-year freshmen in 1995. Although the difference was neither statistically nor educationally significant, the findings do indicate that there was an advance in the academic achievement among Hispanic, African American, and Anglo students who were first-year freshmen in 2000.
