This thesis addresses lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) public library resources and services in Los Angeles County. A paper survey had been distributed to a multicultural, multilingual population of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgendered individuals, and heterosexuals involved in the "coming out" process. Members involved in the "coming out" process perceive LGBT public library resources and services differently depending on their level of "outness," sexual orientation/gender identity, race, language background, and use of the public library in general. Each subgroup uses different methods and locations to acquire LGBT information, with distinct preferences. Reasons why those involved in the "coming out" process do not use the public library are also studied.
