Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2005.
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between strategic planning practices and the impact on supporting ministries, volunteer leaders, and accomplishing the overall Mission in faith based organizations. Based on previous research studies, faith based organizations, Churches, had not effectively used strategic planning practices on any consistent basis. An in-depth, qualitative, single holistic case study approach was selected to evaluate the potential of strategic planning practices applications using an inductive analysis applied to a Presbyterian Church (USA) located in Sonoma, California. The results of this study demonstrated that the application of strategic planning practices had a positive influence on supporting ministries and the case study Church's ability to accomplish its overall Mission. Another result of the study was that volunteer leaders proved to be effective in applying strategic planning practices and connecting these practices to the overall Mission of the case study Church.
