Thesis (M.D.E.)--Dalhousie University (Canada), 2004.
This thesis examines migration flows across Canada from the perspective of three Atlantic Provinces. Low or negative population growth in this region is cause for some concern. Part of the reason behind the low population growth is the tendency of people to migrate away from Atlantic Canada. Understanding the reasons why people choose to migrate would then be important for policy makers who want to grow the population base in Atlantic Canada. There has been some debate in the United States on whether the presence of amenities has an influence on the decision to migrate, and whether variables for amenities should be included in migration models. This thesis explores the question of whether amenities play a role in the decision to migrate by Atlantic Canadians. Specific amenity variables prove to be insignificant in models that are tested.
