This thesis focuses on the choral works of Canadian composer Sid Robinovitch, summarizing his compositional styles and techniques particularly with respect to the folk, traditional, and non-Western elements found within many of the choral works, which number twenty-nine to date. The Introduction presents a brief biography of the composer and explains the methodology of the study of his choral works. Chapter One discusses his early Jewish liturgical works; Chapter Two looks at the sacred Hebrew-texted works intended for concert performance. Chapter Three examines the secular Jewish works, including several arrangements of Jewish folk-song. Chapter Four discusses his non-Hebrew works or "World Music," as each contains non-Western elements in the text source, the music, or both. An Appendix provides a chronological listing of Robinovitch's entire choral output to date. The purpose of the thesis is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the choral output of this internationally known composer, showing the many folk, traditional, and non-Western elements employed and incorporated within.
