Spanish X Bore nannies with an average weight of 20.29 +/- 0.75 Kg, were evaluated to determine the effect of peanut meal supplementation on goat ADG as well as to determine browse selectivity and chemical composition. The trial was conducted on 4.9 ha of Cross Timbers woodland, which was rotationally grazed for 98 days from May to mid-August during two years of substantially low rainfall (42 and 78% below the 100 year average, respectively). Goats were supplemented at 0, 0.25, and 0.5% BW. Goats in the 0 and 0.5% supplement group obtained the lowest and highest ADGs, respectively, during both years. A significant difference (P < 0.05) between the control and the two supplemented groups was detected. No differences (P > 0.05) were found between the 0.25 and 0.5% treatment groups both years. The 2000 and 2001 rainfall amount and distribution substantially affected foliage availability in both years of the study. The predominant browse species to constitute the bulk of the goats' diets were post oak, live oak, elm, hackberry, and greenbriar. Browse plant leaf number, CP, ADF, and lignin content decreased over time in all observed browse species.
