Thesis (Ph.D.)--Showa Joshi Daigaku (Japan), 2004.
This thesis is a comparative study of a Japanese writer, Saneatsu Musha-no-koji and a Chinese writer, Lu-xum, who both had a significant influence as intellectual leaders on the shaping of their societies. They were very similar to each other in that both engaged in literary and social activities throughout their lives to reform their societies by enlightening the general public. Not only did they share each other's philosophy through the translations of their writings and reviews, but also they even went as far as to arrange a meeting between themselves. Especially during the period from 1908 though 1936, these two writers were in close contact by extensively sharing their thinking. In short, they were both writers and thinkers and never ceased to have their hopes for the future of their own societies. In this sense, their writings can be categorized as human documents dealing with the general public's dreams and struggles. To both Saneatsu and Lu-xum, literature and human lives were one and the same, and thus they tried to unify them in the form of literary works.
