Thesis (M.Sc.)--York University (Canada), 1999.
Three surfaces: a topographic surface, water table surface and bedrock surface, were constructed by means of ArcInfo GIS on the basis of the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and water depth data from water wells in the Oak Ridges Moraine, southern Ontario. The stream networks and watershed systems delineated on the three surfaces have been statistically characterized by means of fractal analysis. In addition, the ratios of perimeter-area of a watershed and the ratios of total length of, streams in a watershed over the area of the individual watersheds were used as indices to characterize the stream networks and watershed systems and to measure the possible geological constraints on the evaluation of the stream networks. These indexes then have been compared spatially with the other hydrological indexes such as the water depths and base flows.

Further investigations of the hydrological parameters in the watershed context have been conducted using an existing soil topographic index model which links the nonlinear relationships among water table, topographic surface texture (slope), soil hydrological properties (conductivity and vertical decay factor and the properties of watersheds.
