Oxygen pulse was measured during interval resistance and interval aerobic exercise. Oxygen pulse, defined as oxygen uptake per heart beat, is an indicator of stroke volume, and its rise may increase cardiovascular efficiency. The heart rate corresponding to each participant's 50% 1 repetition maximum during the interval resistance exercise was determined and maintained during the interval aerobic exercise. Oxygen pulse values were compared during the interval resistance and aerobic exercise and rest periods. Overall, oxygen pulse did not differ significantly between interval resistance and interval aerobic exercise. However, oxygen pulse values increased from rest to exercise during aerobic exercise, while the values decreased from rest to exercise during resistance exercise.
