Thesis (M.S.N.)--Bellarmine University, 2003.
Nurses typically spend more time with patients and families at the end of life than any other health professional. Research reveals that nursing education programs are not adequately preparing nurses to deal with end of life issues (ELNEC Curriculum, 2000). The hospice model of care, which provides comprehensive management of the physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and existential needs of people at the end of life, provides a unique approach for educating healthcare professionals. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of educational interventions on nursing students' attitudes and perceptions related to end of life care.

Although statistically not significant, the direction of the overall means was in the anticipated direction, becoming more positive following the education interventions. In this sample, the mean pre-survey scores were relatively high (M = 124.00, SD = 11.67) out of a potential 150. The high pre-survey scores left little room for statistically significant improvement.
