Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2004.
With the demand for clergy to participate in health, marital, personal, and family counseling, it is imperative to evaluate the preparation for pastoral counseling while recognizing a lack of reciprocal relationships with psychology professionals. Through assessed needs, the use of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a viable method of counseling that can be integrated with the development of communication skills from the orientation of self-individuation. SFBT provides an avenue of expertise that can address issues of time constraints and multicultural needs experienced in missionary apostolates. The effects of SFBT training on priests in formation are assessed in this phenomenological study.
