Thesis (M.S.)--University of Massachusetts Lowell, 2004.
This case study documents the development of the 2 in 1 Discovery Farm by Safety 1st, Inc. This type of product, normally developed over a period of sixty-eight weeks, had to be completed in just fifty-three weeks. The steps used to meet this compressed development schedule, and the deviations from the traditional development process are noted and discussed. The evolution of the product through engineering design and cost analysis is also discussed. This case study will demonstrate that it is possible to expedite a product development schedule by concurrently working on industrial design and engineering. In addition, this case study will demonstrate several negative aspects of rapid product development.
