Thesis (M.S.)--University of Georgia, 1997.
The purpose of this study was to develop a methodology for the identification of lace embellishment. Lace embellishment on a late nineteenth century garment from the University of Georgia historic costume and textile collection was identified by using observation and primary, secondary, and supplementary sources. Photography and video microscopy were used to facilitate observations for identification. An identification and documentation form was produced to aid in the process of lace identification and documentation. The evolution of lace and lace making was researched from the time of pre-history to the late nineteenth century using secondary and supplementary sources. The comparison of the lace embellishment used in this study to secondary and supplementary sources showed it to be hand made Valenciennes type bobbin lace.
