The genus Sitobion Mordvilko is reviewed for North America north of Mexico. The concept for the genus is updated, and relationships with other genera are discussed. Four species occur in the region. Keys to apterous and alate viviparous females are provided. All species are described, and line drawings provided for the previously poorly known species Sitobion alopecuri Takahashi. Information on the biology, pest status, distribution, and taxonomy are included for each species. The following synonymies are proposed (senior name first): Macrosiphum alopecuri Takahashi = Macrosiphum (Sitobion) salicornii Richards and Sitobion sylvestri Hille Ris Lambers. A new genus, Robinsonaphis, is described, and the relationships with related genera are discussed: twenty-five species are included in this new genus. Twenty-three of these are restricted to North America, one is found in Central/Eastern Europe and British Columbia, Canada, and one is restricted to Central Europe. Eight species are described as new. All species are described, together with known biological and distributional information. The following synonymy is proposed (senior name first): Nectarophora insularis Pergande = Macrosiphum yagasogae Hottes. A cladistic analysis of all the species of Sitobion and Robinsonaphis is presented. Recommendations for future cladistic analyses of aphids are made, and general recommendations for future research on Robinsonaphis are put forth.Subjects--Topical Terms:
