Results of studies on various aspects of creativity have often produced conflicting interpretations. According to Young (1985), the question, what is creativity?, is complex and multifaceted. He also concluded that it is difficult to define creativity: "Creative behavior always goes beyond any codification of it. The rule makers are always a step behind the innovator. Thus, creativity always goes beyond any definition of it" (Young, 1985, p. 78).Subjects--Topical Terms:

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationships between several important dimensions of creativity: the creative processes of intuition and perception, self-actualization of the creative person and creative thinking, as it affects creative production.

Three instruments were administered to the subjects; the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (measuring intuition and perception), the Personal Orientation Inventory (measuring self-actualization) and the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (measuring creative thinking, or creative ability), The sample was made up of 140 undergraduate students from a small private Methodist College.

Pearson product moment correlation coefficients were calculated for each of the variables measured by these instruments. The correlation coefficients revealed several strong positive relationships between the variables of self-actualization and creative thinking. The correlations between intuition and perception and the other creativity variables were less impressive.

Results of the study indicated that there are differences in levels of self-actualization between persons who exhibit creative thinking skills and those who demonstrate little creative ability. Future research is needed to sort out the baffling interaction between the various aspects of creativity.
