The present study examined whether Loeber's community-based model generalized to a juvenile correctional setting. An additional extended analysis of selected risk variables included age, ethnicity, home approval status, history of violent offense, emotional disturbance, locus of control, and level of hostility to predict and account for the variance of violence. The sample consisted of 218 incarcerated juvenile offenders.

520 $a Regarding Loeber's model, a t-test for Independent Samples was used to examine differences in mean rates exhibited by Overt and Covert Offenders. While statistically significant results were found, practical significance was not achieved. Mean rate differences were relatively small.
520 $a A Forward Stepwise Regression revealed statistically significant findings for the variables of home approval status, emotional disturbance, and hostility concerning institutional violence. However, emotional disturbance was the only variable that meaningfully accounted for the variance regarding the dependent measure of institutional violence. Implications of these findings and recommendations for further study and research were discussed.
