Thesis (Ph.D.)--Alliant International University, Fresno, 2003.
Psychopathy is a devastating disorder that has been defined using behavioral, affective, and interpersonal criteria. Although psychopathy has been reviewed and researched extensively, it continues to be the subject of considerable debate in all areas of science and criminal justice. The challenge that faces mental health professionals is to identify psychopathic personality traits and to assess the likelihood of recidivism and violence with a reasonable degree of accuracy. Therefore, the ability to create valid and reliable instruments of psychopathy that are readily accessible to a wide range of professionals is essential. This study examined the construct validity of two relatively new instruments: the Psychopathy Personality Inventory and the Interpersonal Measure of Psychopathy. Both instruments were developed to improve the assessment of psychopathic traits.
