The purpose of this thesis is to attempt to understand the life and philosophy of Soichiro Honda, the founder of Honda Motor Company and one of the most significant business leaders of post-war Japan. Soichiro Honda was chosen because he was such a unique figure, possessed of a challenging spirit and tremendous creativity. He was a rare example of a corporate founder with a clear articulated philosophical vision, which he was successful in actualizing during the post-war period in Japan.{09}In a certain sense, Soichiro Honda represents the Japanese people's dedicated, fundamental, powerful drive for the recovery of Japan and the Japanese economy after the devastation of the Second World War. The story of his life, coupled with an examination of his philosophy, will disclose a possible basic understanding of the Japanese culture after World War II.
