Thesis (Ph.D.)--Regent University, 2003.
This dissertation research is a quantitative study that uses survey research methodology to examine the influence of religious faith and "born-again" Christianity on supervisor-subordinate relationships and on subordinate job performance in organizations. The measuring instrument used in this study contained three scales of measurement that were successfully used in other studies to measure: religious faith, supervisor-subordinate relationships (i.e., leader-member exchange), and subordinate organizational performance (i.e., organizational citizenship behavior). The survey was conducted at two locations of a buffet restaurant chain in Virginia Beach, Virginia during the late fall of 2001. The survey respondents included both men and women who were employed within various occupations and organizations. The research objective was examined by means of four research questions and nine study hypotheses. In addition to the testing of the study hypotheses, a number of other important relationships associated with the overall research objective were tested and examined.

Testing of the study hypothesis did not reveal statistical significance, therefore they were not supported. However, the results of testing some of the other variables associated with the study did reveal statistical significance. The information contained in this study is highly unique in that no study has ever been conducted on the influence of religious faith on subordinate-supervisor relationships and organizational performance in the workplace. The overall findings of the study contain interesting and valuable information for scholars, researchers, consultants, and other practitioners looking for new information on relationships and performance in organizations.
