Thesis (M.S.N.)--Southern Connecticut State University, 2003.
The purpose of this study was to identify the importance of four categories of educational wants of family caregivers: assisting the disabled adult, maintaining their own well being, maintaining family well being, and understanding health and human resources. The Elaine Matthis Educational Wants Questionnaire was used to assess the learning needs of the male and female caregivers in three age groups. Watson's theory of caring provided the framework for this study. Data collected from a random sample of 31 caregivers was analyzed. Differences in learning needs of males, females and different age groups were identified. The results of this research are offered to assist nurses in meeting the learning needs of family caregivers preparing to take home a newly disabled adult.
