Thesis (Ph.D.)--George Mason University, 2004.
U.S. ground forces are in the process of an unprecedented transformation that will combine information dominance with lethality and agility to overwhelm any adversary. An important component of gaining and maintaining information dominance is the use of unattended ground sensors for the purpose of monitoring activity in an area of interest. To date, the majority of the research in this field has focused on sensor development and signal processing with scant attention being paid to placement, deployment, and survivability of these sensors and the sensor network. This dissertation presents and evaluates new methodologies for quickly developing sensor deployment plans that provide blanket coverage over areas of interest as well as creating the topology necessary for a survivable wireless network that can withstand multiple node interdictions.Subjects--Topical Terms:
