Thesis (D.M.A.)--University of Southern California, 2006.
This document is an analysis of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Missa Solemnis in C Major K. 337, as well as an historical and stylistic placement of the work within his Salzburg masses. The purpose of this research is to provide historical context and practical information about K. 337 and to present a compelling case for its consideration as one of the most important works the composer wrote while in Salzburg. Included is a comparison of all nine masses he wrote to be celebrated by Archbishop Colloredo and a more specific comparison between K. 337 and the major choral works composed directly before and after its completion in 1780.
