The dissertation is organized into four chapters. Chapter I describes the historical context in which Islam was established in the Iberian Peninsula. The history of the Muslim population, from the arrival of the Arabs in the eighth century until the final expulsion of moriscos in the seventeenth century, is presented in detail. This chapter also deals with the social context in which divergences between cristianos viejos ("old Christians") and moriscos developed. Chapter II presents the texts written by Christians that supported the expulsion, centering principally on Aznar Cardona's work. Chapter III examines the morisco writers that preceded Taybili within the context of the polemical literature of exile and subsequently analyzes Taybili's poem. In both Chapter II and Chapter III, the analysis focuses on the religious topics these authors address as well as on the theological concepts they deploy when defending their respective faiths. In Chapter IV both texts are placed in a "dialogue" with one another. Their authors attack and rebut each other's perspective, putting into sharp relief the complete lack of mutual understanding between the communities to which they belong.

The dissertation ultimately puts forth new forms of studying and understanding Morisco literature based on the "hispanidad" of moriscos which is shown through their texts. The conclusion suggests that there should be further critical studies on the influence of Spanish literature of the time on morisco authors and that the literature written by them should be fully incorporated in the study of Spanish Golden Age literature.
