The present study investigated the ability of six screening instruments commonly used by professionals in the pediatric setting (the Bayley Infant Neurodevelopmental Screener [BINS], the Denver Developmental Screening Test-II [DDST-II], the Parent Stress Index-Short Form [PSI-SF], the Temperament and Atypical Behavior Scale-Screener [TABS-S], the Ages and Stages Questionnaire [ASQ], and the Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional Questionnaire [ASQ:SE]) to predict outcome on the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development-Third Edition (BSID-III). Results suggest that the ASQ, the PSI-SF, and the DDST-II address a different aspect of development while contributing to the prediction of other domains of development. In addition, a screening battery consisting of these instruments had an overall agreement of 82.1% with a false positive rate of 10.7% and a false negative rate of 7.1%. Several limitations including sample size and lack of diversity limit the generalizability of these results. Despite the limitations, however, the results show strong correlations and point to the need for follow-up research with a larger, more diverse sample.
