Thesis (D.M.)--University of Phoenix, 2006.
This qualitative phenomenological study describes a method of evaluating transformational leadership skills development in an outdoor leadership training program. A rich, descriptive, open-ended interview process was utilized to explore the role of metaphor as isomorphic mechanism, which revealed themes that triggered program learning and aided in the transfer of learning to the participant's work life. Leadership implications include helping outdoor leadership training program facilitators develop constructive learning programs, aiding organizational leaders in perceiving the value of sending employees to an outdoor leadership program, and furthering leaders' understanding of transformational leadership skills development in an outdoor environment. The study findings strengthen the leadership literature by contributing knowledge concerning the mechanisms that trigger outdoor training program learning and transference.
