The aim of this cross-sectional survey was to assess modifiable risk factors (alcohol, smoking, diabetes, obesity, & HBV co-infection) and access/barriers to health care among chronic hepatitis C patients (CHC) in an urban healthcare system. Participants with CHC were interviewed. In our sample, the prevalence rates of the above mentioned modifiable risk factors were higher than the national averages. Even though participants were well-established patients in their healthcare system, they reported significant barriers in receiving care. One fourth of smokers and over half of overweight participants reported no smoking or weight loss intervention from their health care provider. Fifty-five percent reported having waited too long to see a specialist and 18% reported unmet medical/prescription need. In conclusion, there are significant issues with health care delivery in urban poor populations, which require urgent attention.
