The researcher conducted an interview with Hudson Lake Healing Camp staff and asked for recommendations of those clients they considered successful in their recovery. Counselors referred clients whom they had witnessed have an "aha!" moment while in treatment at the camp. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 study participants. Findings of this study were that the quiet, natural environment facilitated critical reflection as well as thinking about the future. While the culture, subsistence and textbook components of the curriculum were important, building relationships and being able to think were of utmost importance.
