Thirty-two deans/directors of entry level nursing schools in Texas completed the Rokeach Value Survey and a researcher created questionnaire that included attitudes and behaviors concerning minority student recruitment, retention, and student/faculty interactions. Values were compared according to age, gender, ethnicity, type of program directing, level of education, years in education, years in educational administration and years in present position. Salvation, self-respect, and wisdom were ranked as the most important terminal values while honest, courageous , and capable were the most important instrumental values. Statistical significance was found at p = .05 for a sense of accomplishment, a world of beauty, and helpful according to age, for inner harmony and obedient according to ethnicity, for salvation and forgiving according to type of program, for equality according to level of education, for health according to years in education, for inner harmony according to years in present position, and for a sense of accomplishment according to minority student admission. True friendship according to age, courageous according to type of program, and obedient according to minority student admission were found at p = .01. Statistical significance was also found at p < .001 student admission were found at p = .01. Statistical significance was also found at p < .001 when comparing the importance of retention and recruitment programs and the degree of implementation of programs for each. Paired sample of these were found significant at p < .001. In addition, the importance of student/faculty interaction outside of class and the level of this behavior was significant at p < .001 with a paired sample correlation that yielded a significance of p < .001.
