This descriptive, quantitative study was designed to assess the possible connection between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and late gestational alcohol use. The tool measured, retrospectively, the mothers' alcohol consumption during the third trimester of pregnancy. The study randomly sampled 63 mothers with children medically diagnosed with ADHD. They were mothers of children attending grade 2 of an elementary school located in Canada. The questionnaire focused on alcohol and tobacco use during late pregnancy. There were 15 items on the questionnaire. The data were compared to the Centers for Disease Control statistical data on drinking rates among women using the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Survey and the Surgeon General Report on tobacco use in pregnancy.
