Barnard, Christopher George.
From practice to praxis.
- 36 p.
Source: Masters Abstracts International, Volume: 44-03, page: 1072.
Thesis (M.F.A.)--University of Southern California, 2005.
This paper discusses the author's development as a person and painter over the last two years of graduate study and defines the principles, some of which are based on the work of Brazilian educator Paolo Freire, that will guide the author's approach to painting in his postgraduate career. In three chapters---Opinions, Paintings, Praxis---the author will trace his shift in focus from a personal and almost hermetic practice to a broader and more public-minded praxis, or way of living in the world, of which painting is a part. These three sections will demonstrate the author's interest in relating his work both to the history of painting and to the conditions, events and concerns of contemporary society.
