Thesis (M.F.A.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2005.
Three dances created by choreographer Heather Ahern were performed at the Martha B. Knoebel Theater at California State University, Long Beach. The first dance, entitled Utopia, was an examination of gender roles and the changing of social mores over time. This dance was performed 9--12 October 2003. The second dance, There's a Groove in My Jam, explored the relationship of movement, music, and humor and was performed 19--22 February 2004. The final dance, entitled Mass, surveyed mob mentality, the phenomenon of "diffusion of responsibility," and other behaviors exhibited by people in overcrowded situations. The final dance was performed 7--10 October 2004. The lengths of the dances were 26:00 minutes, 9:30 minutes, and 16 minutes, respectively. A common theme apparent in all three dances was the behavior of individuals in the context of a group.
