Globalization has been responsible for major shifts in the economic, social, and cultural make-up of contemporary society. This dissertation is concerned with Latina/o queer performance as a practice of grassroots globalization. I investigate dance, street theater, political activism, and academic conferences as sites where Latina/o queers in the United States negotiate the changes brought forth by the economic, social and political restructuring of the world. I focus on live performance as sites for community building as well as practices of intervention where the new conditions of globalization are negotiated politically.
