Thesis (M.S.Ed.)--Baylor University, 1999.
Healthy People 2010 specifically identifies post secondary educational institutions as a setting where young adults should be targeted for exercise promotion. The Transtheoretical Model provides a systemic method for promoting exercise. The primary purpose of the study was to identify the use of the ten processes of change among the five exercise stages of change in college students. A secondary purpose was to determine the use of the ten processes of change between differences in exercise behavior. A valid and reliable questionnaire was distributed to 710 undergraduates. ANOVAs were used to assess overall significance; Tukey-Kramer HSD was used to assess significance between selected comparisons. Results show five of the processes were significant between processes and stage comparisons, eight of the processes were significant between processes and moderate exercise behavior comparisons and nine of the processes were significant between processes and vigorous exercise behavior comparisons. These results are different from previous literature.
