This descriptive study simulated, measured, and evaluated the effects of power factor on the electrical system of an 8MGD Water Facility. The research design comprised both quantitative and limited qualitative methods. In particular, it sought to evaluate which motors were more beneficial in the electrical system parameters, the high power factor motor or the high efficiency motors. In addition, it sought to evaluate whether the effects of correcting the power factor at each motor's terminal or the effects of power factor correction capacitor at the automatic transfer switchgear main bus was more beneficial in the electrical system parameters. The electrical system parameters include overall system power factor, current, voltage and voltage drop, apparent power, true power and losses, and reactive power and losses. The results indicated that correcting the power factor to 95 percent at the automatic transfer switchgear main bus showed an exceptional effect on the electrical system parameters. Having 95 percent power factor at the automatic transfer switchgear main bus, the data revealed a remarkable reduction in energy consumption and cost. There was no power factor penalty.
