The purpose of this research was to trace the development of jazz studies programs in higher education. The researcher investigated the jazz studies programs at Indiana University and University of North Texas because of the positive reputations of both programs. The study traced the development of the jazz studies curriculum at both schools and compared the results. Tables of courses offered in both programs are provided. The researcher also provided interviews from educators and graduates of each school in the appendixes. The procedures and references used in this investigation are also included.
