The purpose of this study was to determine what impact mentoring has upon the first-year teacher within the seminary program of the Church Educational System (CES) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The purpose of this study was to determine what impact mentoring has upon the first-year teacher within the seminary program of the Church Educational System (CES) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This study analyzed the results of 20 first-year CES teachers who completed surveys about their feelings toward their first year of teaching, as well as their feelings towards their mentor.

These surveys were analyzed using correlational statistics. The research discovered that there was a positive correlation between a first-year teacher's experience and the impact of a mentor. This correlation was determined to be .748. To more fully illustrate this relationship, five CES teachers were interviewed. These interviews revealed that first-year teachers deal with discipline, physical strain, and other non-teaching activities. Teachers also responded that their mentor helped them with items such as lesson preparation, student interactions, and friendship.
