The purpose of this study was to determine what impact mentoring has upon the first-year teacher within the seminary program of the Church Educational System (CES) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This study analyzed the results of 20 first-year CES teachers who completed surveys about their feelings toward their first year of teaching, as well as their feelings towards their mentor.

520 $a These surveys were analyzed using correlational statistics. The research discovered that there was a positive correlation between a first-year teacher's experience and the impact of a mentor. This correlation was determined to be .748. To more fully illustrate this relationship, five CES teachers were interviewed. These interviews revealed that first-year teachers deal with discipline, physical strain, and other non-teaching activities. Teachers also responded that their mentor helped them with items such as lesson preparation, student interactions, and friendship.
