Male residents in a treatment center for chemical dependency were introduced to the goals and procedures of art therapy treatment in 75-minute orientation sessions. Results were measured quantitatively over the individual's tenure in the art therapy treatment group. Self report surveys and art therapist surveys measured the perceived progress from group to group. At the end of the study, collected survey results were analyzed for statistical significance and graphs were created that illustrated important results.

Statistical analysis indicated that an orientation to art therapy treatment group has a significant positive effect on average survey scores. Orientations positively impact both participation in art therapy treatment groups and the perceived benefits of art therapy.
