A good quality of life during the retirement years is a goal shared by most if not all people. In this study, the researcher examined the quality of life through the indicators of health income, marital status, family roles, education and living conditions. This research explored the effect that retirement has on a retiree's quality of life. The study examined the quality of life experienced by "early" retirees and "regular age" retirees.

520 $a This research utilized a purposive convenience sample of seven "early" retirees and seven "regular age" retirees. The retiree participants in this study include two racial backgrounds; black and white, males and females, 55 years of age or older. Fourteen in-depth face-to-face interviews of the participants were conducted. Their responses were recorded, analyzed, and compiled. The quality of life among each participant interviewed was evaluated on activities, freedom to pursue personal interest and health, etcetera.
520 $a At the time of this study, the respondents had been retired, regardless of age at retirement, from one to thirteen years. Most had been retired for over five years. Sixty-eight percent (68%) of the respondents returned to work after retirement. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
