Thesis (M.S.)--University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras (Puerto Rico), 2004.
My master thesis was focused on measuring restoration success, since most restoration projects failed to make an integral evaluation of the recovery in restored ecosystems. After reviewing how other projects evaluated restoration success, I provided an example on how to measure restoration success by comparing four parameters of vegetation structure, four parameters of species diversity, and six parameters of ecosystem processes among pre-restored, restored, and reference sites. In addition, I described how Bray Curtis Ordination can be used to evaluate restoration success. This research project showed that by including vegetation structure, species diversity, and ecosystem processes parameters we have better information to determine the success of a restoration project. Moreover, the Subjective Bray Curtis Ordination is a useful approach for evaluating different restoration techniques or identifying parameters that are recovering slowly and would benefit from additional attention. This information could assist practitioners and managers in determining where to invest human and financial resources.
