This dissertation contains information gathered from the composer, in live conversations and rehearsal sessions between him, the author's duo partner (Maria Choban) and the author. The study analyzes an early, middle, and late piano duet. Svoboda's compositional techniques and the evolution of those skills are discussed.

520 $a Musical style analysis emphasizes the formal organization, melodic structures, harmonic content, rhythmic content, dynamics, textural considerations, and tempo choices. Each chapter of analysis concludes with a brief pedagogical review of the work or movement under consideration. Examples taken from the various scores were edited by the publisher, Thomas Stangland, in the music processing program, Finale. These were then inserted into the text file where needed.

The literature reviewed for this study includes newspaper articles and reviews, encyclopedic references and short articles, and program biographies written by Svoboda's publisher, Thomas Stangland.
