Thesis (M.A.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2003.
The purpose of this project was to investigate the variety of ways in which video is taught in California schools K--12 and to explore the relationship between the instruction and the four components found in the California Visual and Performing Arts Framework---Artistic Perception, Creative Expression, Historical and Cultural Context, and Aesthetic Valuing---as a part of a complete and comprehensive arts education. Because of the relatively recent advances of video technology in the schools, art education literature dealing with all four of the framework's components as they specifically relate to video has been limited. The pursuit of proficiency in video media is desirable as both a creative mode of expression and to empower students to be more intelligent media consumers. To that end, a survey of video-using educators, along with a review of the literature, culminated in a quaternary teaching model in video literacy.
