The purpose of this study was to describe cultural strategy preferences of American Indians who live in Oklahoma for HIV training. Data collection was a two-part process. First, the Circle of Learning Cultural Strategies Questionnaire was distributed throughout Oklahoma by eleven community gatekeepers. The survey consisted of demographic information and a 18-question Likert Scale. Then, a "talking circle" was held after the data from the surveys were analyzed with the eleven community gatekeepers. This allowed, the gatekeepers to have input into what the data meant.

For American Indians in Oklahoma, there was not a consensus on the importance of using culture in HIV prevention. One group was not supportive of culture, one group was somewhat supportive and one group supported using culture. HIV prevention strategies include Traditional Ways, Personal Beliefs, Science-Based Beliefs, and Tribal Context. There were fewer Navigators in the American Indian population than the general population. Two-thirds of the population were less traditional. Participants who identified as homosexual were more knowledgeable on items which related to personal beliefs.
