Thesis (M.S.W.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2005.
The purpose of this project was to examine in the narrative format the writer's experience as an individual born with an upper-limb anomaly. The narrative will explain how the experience of growing up feeling different led to the understanding and empathy the writer inherently feels for clients she works with as a student of social work. Literature was reviewed about physical anomalies, as well as narratives, as an important form of communication and as a tool in social work practice. The writer's experience of developing her own narrative along with social work implications were discussed.
