This thesis addresses the importance of the To-Get-Her Lez Cyber Community in understanding Taiwanese lesbians' history and culture in the 1990s. It explores the influence of the lesbian movement and various Internet technologies, Taiwan Academic Network (TANet) and the World Wide Web in particular, on the formation of Taiwanese lesbian communities.

This research reveals that while the TANet lesbian community is mainly composed of university students in Taiwan, members of the To-Get-Her community are from a more diverse background in terms of residence, age, and profession. The To-Get-Her Web site has become a nexus that connects overseas lesbians to their cultural homeland, Taiwan.

This thesis also shows that building a credible pseudonym is crucial for a To-Get-Her user in forming a lesbian identity that links cyberspace to the real world. While To-Get-Her users constantly negotiate traditional behavioral norms, they tend to accept the necessity of gender role-playing.
